Natural Play Dough Recipe

While making a craft cupboard filled with upcycled pieces and natural elements, I had to have some natural play dough to go with it. After doing some research to perfect a thermomix natural play dough recipe of my own, I have the one! There’s no cooking and there’s no cream of tartar in this easy fool proof recipe!

Ingredients:

330g flour

220g rock salt

250g water

30g oil

Ground herbs, spices and powders of choice.

Method:

Blitz the rock salt in the thermomix on speed 8 to create a powder. Add water, flour, oil and combine the ingredients on speed 5 until a dough is formed. Empty the dough onto the bench and knead until a firm dough I formed. Add more water if too dry and more flour if too runny.

Once you’ve got the dough to your desired consistency, shape it into a rectangle and cut the dough into pieces ready for colouring. I cut mine into 4 pieces as I used 4 colours.

With each piece, add your ground herbs/spices/powders and knead until you have your desired colour.

I used tumeric, paprika, cacao powder and greens powder to make natural colouring in our play dough. You can use any ground herb you wish to make your preferred colour.

Store in an air tight container in the fridge. If storing in a cupboard and it starts to dry out, try adding a drop of water at a time until the dough returns to its play dough consistency.
